Robots and Machines

When I saw the movie The Social Network, I was just as intrigued by the music as the story itself. As the events unfolded, it seemed the soundtrack was perfectly woven throughout. It was seemless, really, and the marriage of the two was perfect. So I wasn't surprised when I found out it was Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor behind the magic. It has his signature sound all over it.

What I particularly loved about the soundtrack was how devoid of human emotion it was-- no lyrics and the instruments were very electronic in their very nature and sound. Perfect for a story about the largest social network site in history. After all, Facebook keeps us all "connected" but in a very non-human way. You never see someone in person, you don't hear their voice when carrying a conversation-- interactions are essentially stripped of warmth. The music reflected that, and methinks it's brilliant.
