To All The Mean Girls

Everyone knows, or has known, the kind of girls that are cruel, manipulative, and downright hateful. The "mean girl." If you've seen the movie (written by one of my favorites, Tina Fey), then you know exactly what I'm talking about. But for those of you who haven't, let me paint you a picture with a broad stroke. In the movie Mean Girls, Katy is a homeschooled teenager who is forced into public education. There, she is a social butterfly who gets along with both the popular and not-so popular cliques. The popular girls essentially "mold" Katy into who they want her to be-- both changing her physically (her style) and mentally (she starts becoming judgemental and fake). In the end (after a path of hurtful destruction), Katy realizes that deep down she is not that girl, and decides to be herself.

Sounds like a nice ending, right?

Well, I think most girls growing up have struggled with comparing themselves against girls who, while they might be pretty on the exterior, have a horrific inner core that reeks of selfishness and desperation.

So, for all those mean girls, this song is for you. It's nice to see guys who don't fall for their trap and know a real woman when they see it. In fact, my favorite line is: "Real guys go for down to Mars girls." Definitely a nice play on the saying, "down to earth."

So, if you've stumbled on my blog and you are a young woman who feels inadequate, please remember that you are awesome, special and beautiful just the way you are! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. People can be cruel, but you need to embrace who you are because there is only one of you.
