Free Your Mind

A friend of mine who currently resides in Germany—which admittedly is the coolest thing to me—and I talk every day. You see, we met at college anywhere from 17-13 years ago (neither one of us remember when or how), then continued writing each other random, brief messages here and there over the years...and finally really reconnected on my birthday this past year.

And we’ve been talking ever since.

But because of the way things are in the state of the world, we don't know if or when we will see one another again, so it is all tinged with much sadness

In the meantime, we share stories and ideas and values. One shared value of ours is openness or open-mindedness. So, one day when I was expressing to him how far I've come in that regard, he  said I've "freed my mind", naturally, this song sprang to mind.

I think the message, while timeless, is most certainly relevant to today. Can we just throw out judging people based on external appearances? We are a human family, so it's time we start loving one another in all our gorgeous diverse glory.

I'll let En Vogue show you how its done. This song is gritty, raw, and powerful. Pretty perfect, if you ask me...
