Erasure

How does this band still sound so fresh, so relevant even beyond their heyday in the 80's?! Incredible! I don't think they get enough love for their brilliant songwriting and musical mastery—everything from the vocals to the electronic beats are superb! So as you can probably tell, I've been on an Erasure kick lately...and as such, for today's post I am highly recommending their album fresh from 2020, The Neon

Another one of their latest albums I can't stop listening to, World Be Gone almost has religious/gospel undertones. You can tell there is definitely a church choir influence...I love it! (Fun fact: Vince Clarke grew up up singing in the church and that's how he met Depeche Mode member Andy Fletcher; Vince used to be in DM.) Something about that sacred music...hymns, gospel music, Gregorian chants...They are beautifully haunting. I love when modern artists can nod to those influences and weave them in beautifully with their style, which in this case is synthpop— my favorite!

I'll leave you with one of my favorite tracks from the album. I love when he soaringly sings, "What a sight for sore eyes."
