...Like a butterfly kissing a child with an eye for the minor key

Popular music just doesn't write lyrics like that anymore-- until it does.

Enter Sia, arguably one of the best composers/lyricists/singers of our generation.
With every note and every word, she artfully crafts her masterpiece.

The radio would love you and I to believe heart-felt music is dead. Think about it:

Typically, the modern pop song is mind-numbingly austere and derivative-- and that's not a good thing unless you are waiting for the latest earworm, and for that, it's shockingly effective. ("Mustard on the beat", anyone? Everyone?*) However, when listening to an artist such as Sia, you get the feeling that much of her thoughts, and really her soul went into the composition. As a society that marches further on towards becoming more plugged-in rather than human, I don't think it would be a bad concept for us to dig deeper, and find our soul and share it with the world. If it starts with music, then even better. Art is meant to be a transformative experience, and how can it truly be such with the shallow, hollow echos of the soul, or the human experience we are bombarded with at present?

Sia: "Dressed In Black"

*"Mustard on the beat" refers to DJ Mustard's signature on every a ton of hip hop songs that have been popular within the last few years. I was listening to Pandora and kept hearing a slur that sounded like "Wasn't on the beat" or "Lovin' on the beat" so I did some research and it's "Mustard on the beat". He made a beat that everyone and their mother, sister, cousin, dog is using and he doesn't want you to forget it sooo...Mustard on the beat, ho! (Did I mention something about derivative earlier? I did? Oh ok. Just making sure...Derivative. Google it.)
